DIY Distressed Cut-Off Shorts

So Spring and Summer are rolling around again and the denim cut-offs are back! I made one a year ago from an old pair of jeans that was a simple cut-off, but this year my mum gave me a few pairs of her old jeans which I decided would be perfect to convert.

The last pair I made were from some skinnies I had that were getting a bit loose. Jeans that are slightly loose are perfect for the distressed nature of this project.

Tools:

    • Jeans
    • Scissors
    • Seam Ripper/Knife

Tutorial:

Here are a couple of silent videos showing you how I created the distressed look on the denim. It is a very simple process:

1. Use Seam Ripper / knife as shown in video

2. Lightly scrape the knife across the denim as shown in video

3. Seperate the threads with your fingers

4. Repeat where ever you would like the distressing to occur

Keep in mind that with each washing, the fraying will be enhanced so you don’t really need to go overboard with the ripping.

These pictures were taken before washing and I’m very happy with the result. However, I am looking forward to see what each future wash will do to the shorts :)

So simple :)
