I stumbled across this post draft a little while ago documenting my making of this hi-low bodycon skirt last year. I have always been a little late with posting my projects, but hey at least I do!
I originally saw heaps of them on ASOS and thought it was an easy enough DIY project to attempt, especially after making my Stretch Maxi Skirt beforehand. I decided to use the same tubular technique.
I wanted to create more of a side hi low drape skirt with a larger cut out than the ones found on ASOS. I’m quite pleased with the results 🙂
Tools:
- Sewing Machine
- Jersey (I used a cotton elastane blend)
- Pins
- Fabric Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Elastic
Tutorial:
Now finish off the hem. There are few ways to go about it with this kind of hemline.
- Raw hem
- Overlocked or zig zag hem
- Folded hem
Raw is obviously the easiest and if you picked the right fabric is completely presentable.
A folded hem is probably the neatest way to do this, but is also the most tedious due to the curves. If you plan to do this, remember to use a double needle.
The overlocked hem is a good middle ground and if you have an overlocker with matching thread I’d say go with this method.
